Paramraj Singh Umranangal beginning with the same village Umranangal is a senior IPS officer & belongs to a prominent political family in Punjab. His grandfather, Sh. Jiwan Singh Umranangal & other family members were at the forefront with the mission to maintain national unity during the dark days of militancy in Punjab.

Paramraj Singh, Inspector General of Punjab Police, was recognized many times for his determination, commitment to the nation and was nominated twice for the president’s medal. There’s an immense level of pride attached with his contribution to the Punjab Police.

His grandfather Late Sh. Jiwan Singh Umranangal (former Akali Dal legislator and former Revenue Minister of Punjab)stood contrary to the militant takeover of the Golden Temple by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his anti-national accomplices.

During this, he was the sole Sikh leader who preached love and harmony amongst the Sikhs and Hindus of Punjab. This isn’t it, taking a strong stand against the atrocities made by the militants, he raised voice and made public statements.

All this made him the target of militants, and he became a prime target of the militants. He got attacked multiple times, but somehow, he survived all of them. But, unfortunately, his son. S. Sukhdev Singh (father of S. Paramraj Singh) was ambushed and killed in broad daylight.

The mela is conducted every year in the fond memory of former Revenue Minister, Late Jathedar Jeevan Singh Umra Nangal, his son Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Umra Nangal and Sampooran Kaur, who lost their lives in safeguarding the peace of Punjab while in the 1984 riots.

The mela preserves and promotes the richness of the cultural heritage and games of Punjab to promote peace and brotherhood. There is a free Health Camp where people can come and avail world class medical treatments and medicines for free.

Mission: Our goal is to spread and take forward the teachings and beliefs of our mighty ancestors and share it having Punjab, to reach a step closer to a safer, peaceful, healthier and brighter State.

With Mela Umranangal Da, our endeavor is to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Punjab. The Mela aims at nurturing and advancing the skill-set of the rural population of Punjab by conducting activities to encourage traditional games, opportunities for women & children as well as conducting one of the biggest health camps of the region for all age groups.

Umranangal Trust gives Rs one lakh aid to the soldier’s family

Tarn Taran, May 6, 2017: IGP Punjab Param Raj Singh Umranangal on Saturday gave monetary aid of Rs one lakh to the bereaved family of Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh killed in while on duty by Pakistani side in Poonch Sector of J&K.

Umranangal gave the aid on behalf of Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Umranangal Memorial Trust.

He personally visited the martyr’s family at their native village Vain Poein in Tarn Taran district.

Umranangal also visited the family of CRPF Inspector Raghbir Singh at village Sathiala and handed aid of Rs one lakh.

The trust has also donated same amount as aid to the family of Gurdev Singh of Patiala martyred in Chhatisgarh.

The trust was set up in memory of the IGP’s father, Sukhdev Singh Umranangal who was shot dead by Khalistanis during the days of militancy.

President’s medal for DIG 

Deputy inspector general of Ludhiana Range, IPS Paramraj Singh Umranangal, would be conferred with President’s Police Medal For his meritorious services on Republic day.

Born in 1965 at Umranangal village under Amritsar district, Paramraj joined the police forces in 1987 as deputy superintendent of police (DSP). Later on, he was deputed as DSP in Khanna and Rajpura.

Paramraj aslo served as superintendent of police (co-ordination) at Rajpura, SP (Detective) Ropar, SP (detective)Fatehgarh Sahib and Faridkot.

He also rendered service in 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) as commandant in Sangrur, commandant of 80th Battalion of Punjab Armed Police(RAP) at Jalandhar Cantt and commandant of 36th Battalion of PAP in Patiala.
